The WALT DISNEY WORLD Entertainment Intern Program (EIP) is a unique educational and work program especially designed to increase practical knowledge of the entertainment industry. Internships are offered in the areas of: Technical Services, Show Production, and Creative Costuming. Internships opportunities exist for the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters. Students must receive academic credit or recognition from their respective school to be considered. Students must be currently enrolled full-time and in good standing. Eligible candidates include undergraduates (second year and above) and graduate students. This program is a partnership between WDW and your educational institution therefore students will be required to resume their studies upon completion of this program.
Students will receive a final evaluation from their work location/coach and forwarded on to their college advisor.
THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE
The WALT DISNEY WORLD Entertainment Intern Program learning experience includes a series of weekly-unpaid seminars, which focus on the various "elements of" show production at WALT DISNEY WORLD including the Company's history, philosophy, and culture. Opportunities are offered for additional contact with live show production professionals.
THE WORK EXPERIENCE
Students may work in a variety of assignments throughout their program. A minimum of 30 hours a week will be scheduled; however, the scheduled workweek will vary and could be more than 40 hours per week. You must be flexible to work day and evening shifts. Students can be scheduled six or seven days a week especially during peak periods. Each student will be assigned a mentor who will personally coach and guide the student through his or her learning and work experience.
THE TEAM EXPERIENCE
The Entertainment Division provides all of the live entertainment at the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort. Our success in show production depends on all the technicians, performers, musicians, characters, costumers, cosmetologists, and entertainment managers working together as a team. In addition, we are dependent on all the Operations, Maintenance, and Custodial cast members helping us to give our GUESTS the best possible experience here at WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort.
ROLES
As a Stage Technician intern, you will find that your role is varied and may include elements that you didn't expect. In a nutshell, we provide the Audio, Lighting, A/V and Stage support for all live entertainment. In practice, this can include sweeping, mopping, and drying wet stages; covering, uncovering and moving tons of stage equipment; installing and then re-coiling miles of cable; hanging, focusing and re-lamping fixtures both indoors and outdoors; inventing, adapting, soldering, and many other tasks that arise during our daily "routine". No matter what your specialty was before you arrived, you will quickly discover that flexibility and adaptability are essential. There also exist opportunities for hands-on experiences with state of the art equipment such as Expression and Whole Hog lighting consoles, Media Matrix distribution systems, and Yamaha mixing consoles. This is a daily show operational type role.
Costuming Internships are offered in 4 areas of concentration: Workroom intern, Costumer Assistant intern, Buyer intern, and Design Intern:
As a Workroom intern, you will be draping, drafting, and "pulling" patterns from existing costumes; sewing muslins; interfacing with Designers and Costumers; documenting construction details and garment specifications; involved in the CAD/CAM process and cutting; costume construction; and fitting, alterations and size charts.
As a Costume Assistant intern, you will set-up costumes for fittings and shows; assist in fittings; pull costumes and fabrics from the warehouse locations, deliver/pick-up costumes from show locations; prepare swatch cards for workroom and costume documentation; input/access data in computer; dress shows/special events; do craft, hand sewing, dyeing projects, painting, sculpting along with doing laundry/ironing.
As a Buyer intern, you will spend a great deal of time on the phone and computer. This is very much an office environment. You will be researching fabrics and trims for the current WDW garments; processing orders for fabrics, trims and garments on a SAP based system; negotiating price and delivery for specific items being ordered; monitoring warehouse inventory; attending local vendor/trade shows and assisting team members with garment bid packages and legal documentation.
As a Design intern, you will be working with Designers, Design Coordinators and Buyers in project development. Work as a sketch artist for operational and entertainment designs. Work with design documentation team on project updates. Learn Web PDM and assist with the input of new information; work in Photoshop, Artworks and Illustrator; create technical flat drawings for costume designs; assist with design research; create mood boards for design projects and create flyers for design projects/presentations.
As a Production intern, you will assist with events by coordinating and organizing rehearsals, load-ins and strikes, and by confirming all elements relating to events. These elements may include Walt Disney World Characters, equity performers, musicians, DJ's, audio visual support, vehicles, external vendors, and technical support.
You'll have the opportunity to interact with the most professional production team in the world! Including Entertainment Managers, Production Managers, Producers, Show Directors, and Music Directors, etc… You will be exposed to the business side of Entertainment and how we manage budgets. You will learn about our talent casting process. You will see the importance of building relationships with partners in maintenance, costuming, and theme park operations.
THE LIVING EXPERIENCE
HOUSING
Cast Members may choose to stay in housing where Advanced Interns and Professional Interns live. While this is not one of the College and International Program housing complexes, the Housing team works closely with the management of this apartment complex to help place Cast Members there.* Participants share fully furnished two bedroom/two bath apartments or three bedroom/two bath apartments. These furnished apartments include all utilities, cable, house wares and high-speed Internet access. Housing payments are collected weekly from each person, in the form of a weekly payroll deduction.
*Housing with Walt Disney World Co. is not mandatory.
PAY
Students will receive an hourly rate of pay. Any work over 40 hours in one week or over 8 hours in one day and sixth or seventh workdays will be paid at time and a half. Castmembers are paid on a weekly basis, every Thursday in payday (with exception to a holiday). The rates are:

RELOCATION
Relocation is the responsibility of the student. Students will be expected to report for orientation on the date specified in your job interest letter. Students leave the program the day after their program ending date.
TRANSPORTATION
Each student must have reliable motorized transportation to get to and from his or her work location.
