Top Honors for “Bambi”
The Library of Congress announced Wednesday that Disney’s Bambi will be immortalized this year in the National Film Registry, the world’s largest film, television, and sound recording archive. One of 25 films selected from 2,228 nominations, the 1942 animated classic about a young deer’s coming of age was chosen for its enduring significance to American culture.
Librarian James H. Billington said, “Our film heritage must be protected because these cinematic treasures document our history and culture … and reflect our hopes and dreams.” The Library’s extensive motion picture preservation program preserves each title for future generations by collaborating with other archives, studios, and independent filmmakers.
